Transport

Though the National Highway does not pass through Patha-namthitta district, the State Highway passes through various parts of the district. The two major highways are the one entering the district from Punalur, passing through Adoor, Pandalam and Thiruvalla leading to Kottayam and the other is bifurcation from Punalur, Passing through Konni, Pathanamthitta and Ranni leading to Kottayam.

Public Works Department is having five road sub divisions in the district; Pathanamthitta 344.003 kms., Ranni 271.955 kms., Mallappally 221.082 kms., Thiruvalla 193.526 kms., Adoor 300.795 kms.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation has three major depots in the district at Padanamthitta, Thiruvalla and Adoor. Bus services from Pathanamthitta include services to Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Punalur, Nedumbassery, Pamba (Sabarimala), Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Thiruvalla, Kottayam, Guruvayoor, Erattupetta, Mallappally, Thenkasi, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Vazhikadavu, Moozhiyar, Maramon, Cherukolpuzha and Malayalappuzha. From Pathanamthitta there are two Inter State Services to Coimbatore and Thenkasi.

Thiruvalla is only one railway station within the limits of Pathanamthitta district. The station is an important one on the Thiruvananthapuram-Ernakulam broadgauge line.

As per the report of Motor Vehicle Department, there are 97710 vehicles as on 31st March 2001 - Two wheelers 49016, Passenger non transport vehicles 19491, Passenger Transport vehicles 19467, Goods carriers 9304, Tractor Travellers 392 and others 40.
