Road
Transport Facilities 2008-2009
Elaborate arrangements have been made by Kerala State
Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) this year pilgrim
season to ensure enough and effective sabarimala pilgrimage.
A fully equipped bus station including garage facility
has started functioning at Pampa round the clock.
Buses will be operated from all important bus stations
to Pampa and Erumeli. In addition to Pamba Bus station,
there is a temporary bus station at Nilackal. Chain
services to Pampa from Nilackal are now operating.
Mobile workshop facilities are arranged at Chalakkayam,
Pampa, Nilackal, Plappally and Perunad.

Bus services from Chengannoor, Kottayam and Ernakulam
railway stations have started to help pilgrimage to
pamba.Advance seat reservation facility is also available
including group reservation prior to 10 days. The
KSRTC will provide bus to Pampa from any place within
10 kms from special service centre for a group of
40 pilgrims.
The
timing of bus from KSRTC is not specifically scheduled
since bus will always available as and when required.
That is, one bus will always be there at the bus station
and will starts the trip just after filling the seating
capacity.

SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE SABARIMALA PILGRIMAGE
2008-09
For the current Sabarimala pilgrimage season, Thiruvananthapuram
Division has geared up all its resources to ensure
a smooth and hassle free journey for the lakhs of
pilgrims visiting the shrine. Majority of the pilgrims
will be alighting at Kottayam and Chengannur stations.
Ernakulam, Tiruvalla, Mavelikara and Kayankulam are
also convenient destinations for reaching the shrine.
In addition to the existing unreserved ticket booking
counters available, additional unreserved ticket counters
will function at Chengannur, Kottayam and Ernakulam
Junction stations during this period depending upon
the rush . Reservation offices are also strengthened.
Additional staff will be deputed from other stations
to man the additional counters. Information Counters
will be functioning with additional staff and staff
knowing different languages will be specially drafted
during this season. Railway Protection Force will
deploy additional personnel for security duty and
also to assist the pilgrims for proper guidance. For
the benefit of pilgrims a Special Computerised Passenger
Reservation Centre will function at Pamba. During
the Sabarimala season necessary action will be taken
to open additional booking/reservation counters at
all the important stations of Thiruvnanthapuram Division.
During the peak period of Makaravilakku days i.e from
14th to 16th January,09 , a special task force team
comprising of commercial inspectors,supervisors under
the leadership of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager
will camp at Kottayam .Similarly at Chengannur Divisional
Commercial Manager and at Ernakulam Area Manager will
camp to oversee the special arrangements.
To mitigate the hardship faced by the pilgrims for
water, additional taps have been provided in all the
platforms. At Kottayam and Chengannur stations additional
toilets/urinals have been provided. Railway has taken
allout efforts to provide uninterrupted water supply
during this pilgrimage season.Pilgrim shelter at Chengannur
is being cleaned and repaired for bed spreading of
pilgrims.Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corpn(IRCTC)
has been alerted to ensure availability of sufficient
and good quality foods in all catering units at Kottayam
and Chengannur during Sabarimala season.
In order to keep the station premises and circulating
area spic and span, necessary arrangements have been
made by deploying additional Health department staff
as well as contractual staff. As lakhs of pilgrims
will be using the Railway premises, Railway appeals
to the pilgrims and passengers to maintain a clean
environment by avoiding droping wastages on the platforms,
track and parking areas.
In addition to the special trains, as announced earlier,
between Chennai Central – Kochuveli ,Ernakulam-Bangalore
and Kochuveli-Yesvantpur, special trains will also
be run from Andhra Pradesh and other areas. The flow
of traffic will be monitored and to clear the extra
rush of pilgrims additional coaches will be provided
by important trains if necessary. To supplement the
Railway’s effort, Government and Non Govt Organisations
have been permitted to put special information booths
to guide the pilgrims for various type of information.
Passengers need not pay any fee for this service.
Pilgrims and passengers are advised to co-operate
with and assist the Railway to keep the station clean,
misusing water supply for daily bath and by discouraging
unauthorized vendors.
