Education

Pathanamthitta district is divided into two educational districts viz. Pathanamthitta and Thiruvalla. Adoor, konni, Pandalam, Pathanamthitta, Ranni, Mallappally, Pullad, Aranmula, Thiruvalla, Vennikkulam and Kozhencherry are the educational sub districts.

There are 12 Teacher Training Institutes, 51 Higher Secondary Schools, 16 Vocational Higher Secondary Schools, 170 High Schools, 141 Upper Primary Schools, 425 Lower Primary Schools and Two Pre-Primary Schools in this district.

Under the Collegiate Education Department eight private colleges are functioning . They are Thuruthicad BAM College, Pathanamthitta Catholicate College, Parumala D.B.Pamba College, Thiruvalla Marthoma College, Pandalam N.S.S. College, Ranni St.Thomas College, Konni S.A.S. S.N.D.P Yogam College and Kozhencherry St.Thomas College. There are two Teacher's Training Colleges at Pandalam and Thiruvalla respectively. They are N.S.S Training College and Titus II Teacher's College respectively.

There are two engineering colleges functioning in this district Under the Institute of Human Resource Development. Adoor Engineering College conducs courses under the Departments of Medical Science, Electronics and Communications and Computer Engineering. Kallooppara College of Engineering near Kadamankulam conducs courses in Electronics, Computer Science and Information Technology.

The district level continuing education programme is smoothly co-ordinated by District Literacy Mission. 162 Continuing Education Centres and 18 Nodal Continuing Education Centres are already functioning in 54 Grama Panchayats and nine Block Panchayats of this district. In addition to this 15 Continuing Education Centres and six Nodal Continuing Education Centres are functioning at the three Municipalities of this district. Two Modal Nodal Centres are functioning under the direct control of District Panchayat. Eleven Continuing Education Centres and three Nodal continuing Education Centres are functioning under the control of various approved NGO's. All this centres are sanctioned by the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority.

All these centres are functioning as the best Information Centres, Study centres, Literacy Centres and Charcha Mandal. These centres conduct self employment training programmes such as umbrella making, mushoom cultivation, book binding, screen printing, soap making, tailoring, artificial flower making etc. Some centres have introduced a lot of innovative programmes like folklore literacy, herbal literacy, agricultural literacy etc.
